VANCOUVER SUMMER & WINTER RECOMMENDATIONS

Hi everyone!

Long time no blog post. But I’m back (temporarily LOL) with a very highly requested post on what to do/eat/etc in one of the best cities in the world… Vancouver!! If you don’t already know, yours truly grew up in Vancouver and therefore knows all the ins and outs to that city (just kidding, I left when I was like 18 – but I do have friends that know the ins and outs to that city…) so together, these are my personal recommendations (and my really good friends Yannis & Eric’s recommendations).

Hopefully this blog post can help you plan your trip if you’re ever planning on visiting or this can help you plan WHEN to go. In general, I recommend going to Vancouver in the summer time (if you can only go one time in the year) because Vancouver rains about 2/3 of the year and most of that will be in the winter. Unless your purpose is to ski/snowboard, summer is definitely a better choice to visit the city itself.  But of course, if you can afford the time and $$$, I would definitely recommend both summer & winter. Either way, I’ve separated this list to Summer and Winter so you can plan your activities and food schedules accordingly.

Without further ado, here goes:

PS: Whatever is in bold is my FAVOURITE and things you should NOT miss!!!!

Vancouver/Nearby Activities

  • Capilano Suspension Bridge
  • Biking along seawall / Stanley Park – This is my FAVOURITE activity by far in the summer!!! This is where you should rent your bike (the other places are really expensive)
  • Fireworks – I love when it’s fireworks time in Vancouver!! I spend the whole day at English Bay (that’s where the fireworks will be) and hog my spot until the fireworks come around. Check around for their dates! This is also completely free (obviously because economics taught us this is a public good)
  • Richmond Night Market – usually on Friday & weekends, go for Asian street food & cheap goods! If you’re from Toronto – this is better than the ones that are being hosted!
  • Granville Island
  • Improve Theatre (never tried but my friend Eric recommends it!)
  • Vancouver Theatre Sports League (recommended by Eric as well!) These are cheap on late nights or Sunday nights

 Outdoor Activities

  • Hiking (hikes below)
  • Paddle boarding (check it out on Groupon for deals!)
  • Jet skiing  (check it out on Groupon for deals!)
  • Cultus Lake Waterpark
    • There’s also a lake there if you want to spend the day
    • You can also go camping in this area!
  • Beaches
    • Rec Beach (by UBC)
    • English Bay (and all the surrounding beaches: 1st beach, 2nd beach…)
  • ATV (Whistler)
  • Moped around the city (only $22 an hour at some places)
    • one of my favourite activities as well! Made me feel like Lizzie McQuire 😉
  • Take a picture at the Steam Clock in Gas Town!

Over Night Trips (most of these you can also do in just 1 day)

  • Vancouver Island
    • Visit Victoria – the capital of BC!
  • Cultus Lake (for camping)
  • Tofino (very north of Vancouver Island) to go surfing & camping!
    • however, this is REEEEEEEALLLLLYYY far from Vancouver. If you don’t have time/if you’re not a fan of camping/surfing, then this might not be worth it for you.
  • Whistler – just because you’re there in the summer doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to do!!!
    • Ziplining – home of the longest zipline in North America – I did it myself and it was one of the most thrilling experiences
    • Bungee Jumping
    • ATV

 Night Life

lol tbh I don’t go out anymore but my 19 year old self gives you the following recommendations:

  • Celebrities on Tuesdays (LOOL this was my favourite place to go when I was 19)
  • All the bars/clubs on Granville Strip including:
    • Venue
    • Republic

Not gonna lie this portion kinda sucks just because it could either be outdated or because I’m just a grandma now =)

Hikes

Some of my favourite must-do hikes for the summer!

  • Joffre Lake (moderate level) – PS this one is near Whistlerish
    • If I had to pick one hike in Vancouver this would be it
  • The Chief (moderate – more difficult) – this one is before you reach Whistler (in Squamish) but still quite a drive from downtown
  • Quarry Rock (easy) – this one has a great view and it’s situated near Lynn Canyon in North Vancouver so if you’re planning on being in this area I would recommend kayaking this day and visiting those other places as well!
  • Garibaldi (never done this one but heard it was difficult)
  • Grouse Grind (this isn’t really a hike – it’s basically just stairs and a direct route to the top of the mountain but it’s definitely a work out!)

 Breakfast/Brunch

  • Catch 122
  • Medina Café
  • The Oakwood
  • Jam Cafe
  • Yolks
  • Bells & Whistles
  • Water Street Cafe

 Happy Hour

  • JOE FORTES – $1 oysters and their lobster roll is to die for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fun fact: the HSM cast loves coming here
    • You better go here. this is the best place in the world
  • Ebisu – $1 oysters, Izakaya-type food, and their sushi is also amazing!
  • Nightingale
  • Steamworks
  • Coast
  • Fanny Bay Oyster

Rooftop Patios

  • Reflections
  • Pier 7
  • The Roof

 Sushi/Japanese

  • Momo sushi (downtown) (affordable & big sashimi pieces!)
  • Sushi California (several locations)
  • Miku (and other sushi restaurants owned by the same parent company). If you’ve been to Miku in Toronto, the Vancouver one is where it was first created. Also try their other sister restaurants such as
    • Minami
    • (that ramen place)
  • Victoria Sushi (far from Vancouver but worth the trek)
  • Green Leaf Sushi
  • Ora Sushi
  • Poke Time
  • Black Rice
  • Gami Sushi

Korean

Thanks Yannis for these recommendations!

  • House of Tofu
  • Big Chicken Town
  • Sura
  • Sooda

Other Asian Food

  • Phom Pen (Cambodian Food) –
    • they have “the best chicken wings in town” (but in my opinon I like this other place way better which is right below)
  • Truong Thanh
    • This 24 hour Viet restaurant is actually one of my favourites in Vancouver – their BBH is amazing and also their chicken wings are better (IMO)
  • Japadog – Japanese hot dog: try their BUTTER FRIES (I’m drooling as I’m thinking about it). Fun fact: there were line ups for at least 6 blocks during the 2010 Olympics)
  • The Asian Heritage Eatery
  • Boiling Point
  • Top Shanghai Cuisine Restaurant
  • Banana Leaf
    • One of my favourite Malaysian restaurants!

Dessert

  • Lucky Donuts
  • Cartem Donuts
  • Passion8 (loooove their mango shaved ice!)
  • Honey & Salt
  • Dragon Ball Tea House
  • Breka Bakery
  • Milk Cow

Other Food

  • Negebuayo
  • The Sand Bar
  • Rhinofish
  • Crab Park Chowdery
  • M Cafe
  • Steveston Pizza Company
    • This is where I got that crazy pizza on my Instagram. I got so many questions about it and this is where it’s from!

WINTER RECOMMENDATIONS

Activities

  • Capilano Suspension Bridge (they decorate it with Christmas lights during this time of year!)
  • Light Show (in the past there has been a couple: “Enchanted” and “Glow” – not sure which one, if any, will come back!)
  • Stanley Park (there is usually a light show here as well, really pretty and you can also ride a Christmas train)
  • Christmas Market (last time I went it wasn’t thaaaaaaaaaaaat great – if you’re from Toronto, the one in the Distillery is way better but if you’re running out of things to do or you want to do something Christmas-y, there you go)

 Winter Activities

  • Skiing/snowboarding in Whistler (I assume that’s why youre in Vancouver in the winter??)
  • If you cant make Whistler, go to Cypress or Grouse – they’re closer and will still be better than your mountains!!!!!!!!!

I hope this list was helpful!!! I will continue to come back and modify it. If you’re from Vancouver and you think there’s something worth putting on here that I’ve missed please let me know!

Most importantly… enjoy your trip!!!! ❤

Love,
Lisa

Eye Envy Lash Serum Review // How To Grow Longer Lashes

Hi guys!

Long time no talk on here. I feel like I’ve been channeling all my energy to my new YouTube channel and I’m now trying to figure out what to write for my blog (that isn’t already covered via YouTube). Anyway I thought the perfect thing to write about next was about the Eye Envy Eye Lash Serum that I talked about in my latest YouTube video where I show you what my bare face looks like how I applied my everyday makeup.

Before I go on and on about this product I just want to throw a disclaimer out there that this is not sponsored WHATSOEVER but if you are so kind to email them that you saw this review through me maybe they’ll actually sponsor me LOL.

Anyway… I’ve been using this product for years and I absolutely CANNOT live without it. If you know me for a long time you’ll know my lashes were non-existent. These really helped them grow longer and thicker. ALSO this can be used for your eyebrows as well (never done that b/c I have very bushy eyebrows #DontWantToTalkAboutIt #LeaveMeAlone).

I received so many questions from you guys so I thought that I would just make a blog post that puts all the questions together. Since I’m lazy af and love to refer you back to my platforms, the next time I receive a question I’m literally just gonna answer with my URL LOL. If I missed a question, lmk and I’ll quickly add to it.

ANYWAY ENOUGH BABBLING, LET’S GET TO IT!!!

WHERE TO GET IT:

You cannot buy this online through their site – you can only find it through authorized beautician stores (waxing places, nails, etc) so use their site to find the one closest to you!

COSTS

The serum costs:

  • $75 for a bottle that will last 3 months
  • $99 for a bottle that will last 6 months

And if you’re Asian like me I’ll just tell you that the 6 month bottle is more worth it because you end up paying $16.50 per month rather than $25 per month. Also, when you first start using it, you will need to use it for awhile before you see results so it’s just the one that makes the most cents! 😉 (DID YOU GET MY PUN? DID YOU??? :D)

*Note: For the first month, use it daily until you see the results you want, then you can use it every other day

PERSONAL REVIEW

The reason I love this product is because of how natural it makes my lashes look (well duh, because they’re literally my lashes but longer but you know what I mean) and it’s better than the alternatives in the market. I tried extensions ONCE and I never did it again because I didn’t like how I couldn’t wash my face/hair when I first get them, how I couldn’t use oil-based make-up remover so I could barely wear eye shadow, and how it was SO expensive to maintain. Using false lashes were also difficult for me because it takes me forever to put it on and it ultimately didn’t look natural/professional enough at work. That being said, the serum was able to resolve all the issues I had because it was natural looking, quick to apply, and not as expensive as extensions and falsies (if you put them on everyday).

For me, I didn’t really see the results until maybe the third week or fourth week. The results were also a lot more obvious when I put on mascara, you can see exactly how much your lashes have grown! Like I said, I have used it for many years so I can tell you for a fact that this serum only really works if you do this everyday and you maintain it. When you first start out, you must apply it every day. After seeing the results you want, you also have to maintain it; this is where you can apply it every other day. I recommend the morning because a beautician told me that it’s when your hair follicles are more likely to grow. I tend to put this on before I do any other eye make up (you can see how I apply it in my tutorial).

If you don’t maintain it, you won’t be able to get the results you want because your lashes naturally fall off and therefore, the ones that have grown through the serum will fall off, leaving you with your natural length.

I’m so sorry I don’t have a before and after picture for you. Truthfully when I first started using it, I was still skeptical so I didn’t even think it would really work on my short ass lashes but by the time I realized it was working I was like, “damnit I fucked up… should have taken a before picture.” I KNOW …. I HAD ONE JOB AND I FAILED YOU ALL. Sorry guys 😥 I promise to do better next time. I’ll show you a picture I got off the internet for now LOL.

Anyway, I hope I answered most of your questions regarding price, whether or not it’s worth it, etc… if you have any more “technical” questions like how to apply (excuse me, like was my video not good enough for you?), you can find more answers in their FAQ section.

Lisa

Aritzia Warehouse Sale Shopping Tips & Tricks

For those of you who have known me for a long time, you probably know that I’m a sucker for warehouse sales and I’ve been going to the Aritzia Warehouse sale since I was in grade 6. That’s nearly 10 years O.O #nolife #veteran. Anyway, after going for so many damn years I’ve learned a thing or two about shopping at this warehouse sale (or warehouse sales in general…) so I thought I’d share my tips and tricks to make the most out of this hectic experience.

1. WEAR CLOTHES THAT ARE EASY TO TAKE ON AND OFF

The thing about warehouse sales is that everything they sell is final sale. That means you definitely have to try on the clothes before purchasing it. Another reason trying on is important is because sometimes you’ll realize defective details that you wouldn’t have noticed had you not tried it on. That being said, you need to wear clothes that are easy to take on and off so you don’t waste your time.

You also need to wear a pair of comfortable shoes so you’re able to run around the entire venue no problem LIKE CHASING THAT B**** THAT TOOK YOU SHIRT (lol jk don’t do that but if she really took your shirt…)

2. WEAR A TWO PIECE INSTEAD OF ONE (AKA DRESS, JUMPSUIT ETC)

This year, I wore a tube top from Brandy Melville – it made it super easy to take on and off and it even made it easy to try things on outside the change rooms when the line-ups get too long. I also wore shorts that were easy to pull off so that way I could try on different tops while having a pair of black shorts to see how it would look. Wearing a classic tube top also made it easy because it pretty much went with any pair of pants I put on.

3. do not wear artizia clothes (or whatever brand that’s hosting the sale)

The thing is, a lot of clothes they sell don’t have price tags on (sometimes because customers try it on and it falls off). That being said, if you wear something nice from Aritzia and someone picks it up while you’re changing, they might end up purchasing it (true story).

4. WEAR PROPER UNDERWEAR

If you’re trying out a bunch of different outfits, you need to wear undergarments that can match the most number of outfits. For me, that would be my strapless nude bra because I get to see what a piece of clothing looks like when I wear whites, strapless, or tank tops. For underwear, I also suggest wearing something nude if you like white bottoms (or a thong).

5. BRING A SMALL PURSE THAT DOESN’T NEED TO BE COAT CHECK

This year, a woman lost her LV purse because the coat check person gave someone else her bag. This also happened to me when the coat check person offered me someone else’s nice purse. Moral of the story is that you don’t want to lose your valuables because the sale gets too busy and some people out there are evil #ihatehumans.

Additionally, this helps you save time so you don’t have to line up for coat check the minute you get inside and you can get straight to the clothes (AND you don’t have to line up on the way out).

6. BRING WATER!!!!!!!! AND FOOD BUT MOSTLY WATER!!!!

If you’re like me and plan on staying at the warehouse sale for a couple of hours, you need to bring water to refuel yourself. If you’re planning to stay there for really long (like me #oops #guilty), you should also bring snacks when you’re lining up for the sale or even when you’re inside to help you refuel. The first few years that I’ve been going to the warehouse sale, I never thought of bringing food or water but I always felt like dying when I leave #DramaQueenHour. When I brought my mom she was smart enough to bring both food and water for us which kept us going for the whole day #MyMomIsAsCrazyAsMe.

If you’ve attended the sale before, you know that you don’t just go into the sale. You have to earn your way through by lining up for hours. That being said, you should probably have a strategy going in so you get what you want and you don’t feel like the line-up was a waste. Even if you’re not first in line, these tips will help to keep you organized in a hectic condition.

1. MAKE A LIST

I don’t mean that you have to physically write a list down but you should have an idea in your head of the things you want to look for. This is usually the stuff that you’ve wanted in stores but didn’t buy it because of the price. This list is important because it helps you filter and prioritize your items when you’re at the sale.

2. go after THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER ITEMS FIRST

You want to go after the most-wanted items first because they’ll be the first to go. Or at least the common sizes will be the first to go. That being said, if the “most popular” items are part of your list, you should go to these first.

I’m not sure if this is 100% true, but after going for so many years, I feel like these are the most popular items (in order):

  1. Winter jackets (parkas)
  2. Wool coats
  3. Jeans
  4. Sweaters
  5. Pants

From experience, these are usually the most difficult to find because they have the biggest savings. But once again, not sure if this is actually true but this is what I usually notice when I go.

2. HAVE A “YES” “NO” “MAYBE” PILE

Filtering is your best friend at these warehouse sales. You need to grab first and think later. When you think first it might be gone SO PRIORITIZE, PEOPLE!!!!

My last tip…

GO TO THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY EVEN THE DAY BEFORE IF YOU CAN

The warehouse sale always has a friends & family event one day before the actual sale. If you can, try to cop a ticket from a friend that works at Aritzia because it will save you a lot more time waiting in line and potentially better things at the sale!

Day on the Coast

Drove to my friend Emily’s on Saturday night so we could all catch the ferry together to stay at Jon’s cottage and go jet skiing the next day (YAYYYYYY) #neverbeenjetskiingbefore. Of course me being stupid me left the car lights on when I left so I was feeling kinda bummed on the ferry #WhyAmILikeThis. Thankfully I had good company so that didn’t last very long because soon enough we were drinking my sorrows away #DramaQueenHour.

This past few weeks has really made me appreciate FRESH AIR. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about… there was smoke all over PNW because of wildfires so the air quality wasn’t the greatest – you couldn’t even see the clouds! 😦 Didn’t even want to go hiking because why in the world would I hike for hours and not see the view I came for?! #Waste #LetsBeReal.  Anyway, it was nice that it finally rained Saturday night because it finally cleared the air and it made Sunday so much more enjoyable being able to see the views of the coast.

I love you, blue skies

When we finally got to the jet skis I decided to borrow one of Jon’s wet suits because I’m slightly very afraid of the cold. It actually didn’t turn out too bad so if you’re ever thinking of going jet skiing you could also go without. I only know that it wasn’t too bad because eventually I had to pee so I got out of the wet suit and jumped in the ocean #TMI #Sorry.

me and my west coast lit police ❤
behind the scenes.

Don’t know what’s more fun about jet skiing – being the person in power and driving like a maniac or getting thrown off into the ocean. Either way I’m buying a jet ski one day :D.

On a totally separate note, I finally ate a burger – haven’t had one in YEARS #jk #probablyjustone #DQH. And let me tell you – that Big Mac sauce (available at a Costco near you!) is AH-MAZING. Could eat this all day.

And for those who care (even if you don’t I’m force feeding you information anyway), my car lights were still on when I finally got back to Emily’s house on Sunday. A full 24 hours and the car never ran out of battery. Moral of the story, buy a Honda Civic #1fannow #ImmuneToLisaFuckUps.

Thanks for reading! Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Love,
Lisa

HI GUYS!!!! 🙂

After being in school for more than half my life (17 years?! holy shit that’s like a full angry teenager), I can’t believe I’m finally done school. F.I.NA.L.L.Y. I feel like I’ve been waiting for this moment ever since I got put into a group project in grade 3 and had to deal with humans #DramaQueenHour #YesDramaQueenHourIsBack. Will I miss school? Uh… to some extent. I’ll definitely miss organized hang out sessions (some people call it class) with my friends, being able to sleep in because my class schedule is based on my sleeping and eating timetable, and of course the “let’s have a chill night”s that turn into black outs over the weekend. But the parts I won’t miss? Having to work even when classes are over and feeling like nothing is ever completely “done” because even if you’ve studied enough – is it still enough doe? #theanxietyisreal

Anyway, would I pursue another degree? PROBABLY NOT. HECK NO. As a person with real ADHD issues, I don’t think my brain is engineered to sit still for more than 5 minutes so I’m probably not gonna pay for another few years of putting my brain through that.

NEXT CHAPTER

So if I’m not going to school then WTF am I doing with my life? #WhoGivesAShitBesidesMyMomButImTellingYouAnyway. The first step of my next chapter is probably dealing with my own expenses since there’s no more Bank of Mom & Dad. That means working full-time starting in September and living the rush hour life just like everybody else #Basic. With a more steady schedule in my life, I feel like it would be easier to manage other aspects of my life (this is really starting to sound like a college essay rather than a blog post but anyway). Besides, life is really just about improving yourself right…?????? (I say this every year but I end up staying the same but whatever it’s the thought that counts). That means eating healthier, exercising more, yaddi yada, it’s all the same stuff. But what else is new?

MOVING IN WITH PUKAS LUCAS!!! #Pukas2Lucas

We recently started furniture shopping and organizing our room… What that really means is I do all the furniture picking and Lucas does all the organizing because of his severe OCD.

*What feels like every night*
Lucas: babe can we clean
Me: … … … NO BABE ALL WE DO IS CLEAN.

We also realized very quickly that we I have a lot of shit clothes and someday down the road I’m gonna get that Carrie Bradshaw closet… OR EVEN THE ONE FROM PRINCESS DIARIES – either or is fine I’m not complaining ;).

The best part about school being over is the free time in the evenings (and for now… 24/7) so I’m finally able to have time to pursue the things that I have real interest in. Such as writing on this blog. Being able to write has always been an outlet but with such a busy past few years, I’ve been putting this on the back burner.

HOPEFULLY I’M BACK FOR GOOD. #ConsistencyisKey #SomethingIDontUsuallyHave.

As usual, thanks for reading :). Until next week 😉

Love,
Lisa
